By creating graphic design systems of chance, I develop platforms that summon synchronicity and provoke a heightened awareness of the world around us.
Abstract
We have all experienced the sensation of coincidence, or synchronicity. Coined by swiss psychologist Carl Jung, synchronicity is simply a meaningful coincidence; a coincidence that happens for a reason, and that reason, to me, signifies being on the right path in life and being exactly where you are meant to be. By creating graphic design systems of chance, I develop platforms that summon synchronicity and provoke a heightened awareness of the world around us. My fascination with synchronicity arose during my senior year of high school when, for some mysterious reason, I kept seeing the numbers 911 on digital clocks. The patterns I was seeing were intriguing, and upon further research in VCU, I was determined to create a visual language that could illustrate and represent this phenomenon. By definition, synchronicity is an abstract concept, therefore, it seemed apt to use an abstract form of visual communication to explore it. Upon conducting a survey and various workshops, I discovered that synchronicity could indeed be summoned and that it appears to be a universal experience. Through the use of sound and visual narrative, I am attempting to visually articulate my subjective experience of synchronicity.
